"The Indomitable Florence Finch": An interview with author and former Congressman Robert J. Mrazek
The Asian American and Pacific Islander Caucus and the Veterans and Military Families Caucus invite you to an interview with former Congressman Robert J. Mrazek about his book: the story of Florence Finch, the Americans she helped, and what her life was like when she came to the United States.
In 1942, the Japanese Empire defeated American and Filipino forces during the Second World War. One woman who was determined to resist the occupation was Florence Finch: born to an American father and a Filipina mother, and widow of an American naval officer killed early in the Second World War, Finch brought necessary supplies to American POWs and worked to help others in the resistance.
Florence Finch is the subject of The Indomitable Florence Finch: The Untold Story of a War Widow Turned Resistance Fighter and Savior of American POWs by Congressman Robert J. Mrazek and published by Hachette Books in 2020.
Congressman Robert J. Mrazek represented New York’s 3rd District from 1983 to 1993. During his time as Congressman, he helped author several laws including the Amerasian Homecoming Act, which provided a path for the children of American servicemen in Vietnam to come to the United States; the Tongass Timber Reform Act, which protected Alaska’s largest forest; and the National Film Preservation Act, which established the National Film Registry in the Library of Congress. After retiring from Congress, Congressman Mrazek became an author, writing seven novels, four works of nonfiction, and one screenplay.

Gender Equality: Unleashing Women's Full Potential
Professor Linda Scott will join us April 13th @ 12pm EST/6pmCET
To discuss the research behind the findings in her recently-published book:
“The Double X Economy: The Epic Potential of Empowering Women."
Internationally renowned expert on women's economic development and Emeritus DP World Professor for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Oxford. Professor Linda Scott will join us to discuss the research behind the findings in her recently-published book: “The Double X Economy: The Epic Potential of Empowering Women.” Her analysis of international gender data shows the reality of a distinctive pattern of economic inequality which, when combined with cultural impediments, forms the shadow economy unique to women, the “Double X Economy.” To quote Melinda Gates:
“Linda Scott shines a light on women's essential and often invisible contributions to our global economy--while combining insight, analysis, and interdisciplinary data to make a compelling and actionable case for unleashing women's economic power." --Melinda Gates, author of The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World
Linda gives us a powerful argument going forward: “…equal economic treatment for women would put a stop to some of the world’s costliest evils, while building prosperity for everyone.” And she is looking to recruit everyone to the cause of women’s economic inclusion!

Legislative Pulse: Using Billtrack50 to Follow Legislation
On Sunday the 11th of April Karen Suhaka of the DAUK West Midlands Regional Group will share how to take action on the political issues you care about most.
Join us to hear directly from Karen, founder and catalyst of Billtrack50, who’s worked on American legislative state and federal data management for many years. She has been most generous in giving DA a free subscription to billtrack50.com to research our key policy areas and develop plans to reach legislators and make policy become a reality.
Karen will walk through the basic steps as a bill goes through to become law, talk about how bills are numbered to help you figure who to call, when states are in session so you know when you can call, provide resources to look up who your representatives and their staff are, and help you figure out what’s the best action to take.
This event is sponsored by the Hispanic, Asian American & Pacific Islander, Global Black, LGBTQ+, ProDA, Veterans & Military Families Caucuses, the Taxation Task Force, and the Texans Abroad Squad. All members of DA are invited to join our caucuses, taskforces, and teams and attend our events.

For more information on the nominating process and the Call for Candidates, please see here.
The nominations period has now closed. To see the Candidates Statements, please see here.
Stay tuned - this page will be updated with agenda details.
2021 NATIONAL OFFICER AND VOTING REPRESENTATIVE ELECTIONS
All members of Democrats Abroad France are welcome to attend and vote in the DA France National Officer and Voting Representative Elections on April 17. You will have an opportunity to hear from the candidates themselves prior to the close of voting and final tabulation of results. All members wanting to vote at the meeting are asked to register to vote by virtue of RSVP for this meeting, below, on or before April 15th -- this allows the DA France Election Board to prepare the voter rolls on the day of the meeting.
EARLY / ABSENTEE VOTING OPTION
All DA France members also have the option to vote early via an online absentee ballot made available to them via email, from March 28 until 5PM on April 15th. This is to encourage member participation from all across France even if they cannot attend the meeting on Election Day. As a result, no nominations from the floor will be allowed.
If you elect to vote via the Early Vote/Absentee Ballot, you will not be able to vote in the same election a second time even if you attend the Election Meeting. However, in the event of ties, the DA France Election Board may elect to conduct snap Run-off Elections to break ties, time and other conditions permitting, at their discretion. In such case, all members of DA France who have RSVPd for the meeting by April 15th and in attendance at the Election Meeting, will be allowed to vote in any Run-off Elections. Absentee voting will not be an option for snap Run-off Elections since they will be conducted at the Election Meeting. RSVP below to register to vote on Election Day, April 17.
To join Democrats Abroad, please go to www.democratsabroad.org/join. You must be a US citizen 18 years of age or older by Nov. 2, 2021 and resident in France.
