Tax and the Overseas Voter - Tue 23 May, 7pm, Keppel Bay

In response to questions arising about voting and its impact on state tax residency we are holding a "Tax and the Overseas Voter" event.  We will be discussing a range of taxation matters that have impacts for Americans abroad.  And the timing couldn't be better, with Congress buzzing about comprehensive tax reform.

Democrats Abroad is holding a Congressional Door Knock on 16-17 May during which we will be pushing a range of tax reforms for Americans abroad, especially residency-based taxation.  We urge you to bring your questions about Democrats Abroad's tax advocacy to our event on 23 May.  Note:  Democrats Abroad cannot offer personal tax, accounting or legal advice.

We will probably be doing another postcard campaign during this gathering.  In this campaign we will send messages to our members of Congress in support of Residency-Based Taxation and ask members of the house to support H.R. 2136 - the Overseas Americans Financial Access Act, a bill that would provide an exemption from FATCA reporting for the financial accounts of Americans living abroad.
