A friend of Democrats Abroad in Geneva will host Democratic Senator Tim Kaine (D) at home with a cocktail reception on Wednesday, August 30. Senator Kaine has visited Geneva several times before.
This is an opportunity to come together in a private and intimate setting to hear his behind-the-scene views on the current challenging political situation in our country. The host states it clearly: "Our young country is proving to be much more fragile than we could ever have imagined. A virulent minority has managed to gain control of the Republican party and is progressively forcing their radical ideas on us all, translating them into law and overturning the checks and balances put in place by our forebears. They need to be stopped if we want to stay a democracy. With a narrow majority in the Senate, we need every seat we can get!"
Kaine announced this year that he will run for a third term in the Senate, following 16 years in state and local office. A well-loved and effective member of Congress, Senator Kaine sits on several committees: Armed Services, Budget, Foreign Relations, and Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.
