The New Jersey Reparations Council, convened by the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, is set to host its third virtual public session on January 11, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. ET, focused on Faith and Black Resistance.

About the New Jersey Reparations Council

Co-chaired by Taja-Nia Henderson (Rutgers Law School) and Khalil Gibran Muhammad (Harvard Kennedy School), the New Jersey Reparations Council is a first-of-its-kind commission to study and develop proposals to address the ongoing vestiges of enslavement and structural discrimination in the Garden State. The body is set to hold nine virtual public sessions over two years, covering the History of Slavery in New Jersey, Public Education and Narrative, Economic Justice, Segregation in New Jersey, Democracy, Public Safety and Justice, Health Equity, Environmental Justice, and Faith and Black Resistance. The council’s final report and policy recommendations are scheduled for release on Juneteenth 2025.
