    Geneva Donation Drive

November has two great holidays: one offers Americans an opportunity to honor our US servicemen and women and the other to give thanks for our good fortune.

Just a few hours north of us is the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, the largest US military hospital outside the US. On any given week there are around 100 active or recovering soldiers there. Some quickly return to their duty station, others can be there for a lot longer.

The Wounded Warrior Project and fellow support organizations in Landstuhl work with the soldiers to make their unexpected stay in Germany as comfortable as they can. Simple pleasures like Crocs and cozy hoodies, or vitals like socks and boxers can make a difference.

The Geneva Chapter of Democrats Abroad is running a donation drive from Veterans Day to right after Thanksgiving. We warmly invite our members to RDV with us from 10:00-13:00 at any of the following locations:

    Saturday 13th Balexert, Geneva
    Sunday 14th Gare Cornavin, Geneva
    Saturday 20th La Combe, Nyon
    Sunday 21st Lausanne Gare, Lausanne
    Saturday 27th Aubonne Outlets
    Sunday 28th Belair Centre, Yverdon-les-Bains

To get precise location on each day join the DACH-GVA Chapter WhatsApp group: https://chat.whatsapp.com/GcBMuXR2gMl14iYp0xUAoS

4th of July - Together Again!

Join Democrats Abroad Switzerland for a nationwide celebration of 🇺🇸 Independence Day 🇺🇸!

We would be delighted for you, your family, and your friends to join us on July 3rd at the charming Köniz Castle in Bern, to celebrate Independence Day! It’s exciting to be able to host our first nationwide event since the beginning of the pandemic, and to have a chance to reconnect with old friends as well as meet Dems new to Switzerland. We’ve organized a grill picnic, games, face-painting, and a US news trivia contest with prizes.

Carpooling: Can you offer a ride or are you looking for one? Please click here to post a comment on the public board.

Parking:  You can drive into the venue courtyard to drop things off and you can park at Parkplatz Schloss Köniz (http://goo.gl/maps/mPtQ9j4WF4XGeGsy6)

Cost: This event is free, including non-alcoholic refreshments.

Contact: If you have further questions about the venue or have thought of a way to help, please contact Radhika Garland  [email protected] (+41 76 778 60 78) and Liz Voss [email protected] (+ 41 78 931 91 13).

    Program:

    • 2:00-5:30 pm: Open Grill and Apéro. Bring your picnic supplies with you; we will provide the grill.  If you are bringing something to share, please let us know! There will be local beer available at cost.
    • 3:00-5:00 pm: Games, face painting, and more.
    • 3:00-7:00 pm: Political action time!
      • Letter writing marathon. We hope to write at least 100 letters/postcards to our elected officials, voters in swing states, and voters living in Switzerland.
      • "Why I'm Voting" Booth. Record a short video about why voting in US elections is important to you.
      • "Bans Off Our Bodies" mini protest. The SCOTUS decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization was announced on Friday, June 24, 2022, and Roe v. Wade has officially been overturned. Make a sign and take a picture for us to use on our social media feeds.
    • 5:30 pm: US Politics Trivia Contest. We’ll have lots of questions of varying difficulty and prizes for the winners.

DACH Geneva Book Club - July 2022

Our July 2022 book is Let There be Money: Understanding Modern Monetary Theory and Basic Income by Scott Santens. From Amazon:

Utilizing modern monetary theory (MMT), Santens leads readers through a fascinating journey. He connects the economic dots in a way everyone can understand in order to clearly see the big picture that is humanity's relationship to money and what's truly possible with it if used to its maximum potential.

Please join us even if you haven't read the book!

Additional information about this (and future) event(s) can be found here.

July's meeting will take place on Zoom and in-person in Geneva; RSVP or send an email to Sam to receive the meeting details. If you aren't already on the Geneva Book Club mailing list, you can send an email to Sam letting him know you'd like to be added.
