"All Men AND WOMEN are Created Equal"
Join us for a reading and discussion of the first American feminist manifesto from 1848!
On July 20, 1848, The Declaration of Sentiments declared, “We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men and women are created equal.”
Join us for a book club style reading and discussion of this fascinating document prepared by the women who attended America’s first Women’s Rights Convention held at Seneca Falls, New York in 1848. On this historic anniversary, we will read aloud the short document and then discuss our reactions and ideas about this early feminist manifesto, facilitated by historian Dr. Maura Doherty, Ph.D and Victoria Pao, DACH Basel member.
Dr. Doherty is a specialist in American women’s history and published author. She recently appeared on the BBC celebrity genealogy series, “Who Do You Think You Are?”
