The Democrats Abroad Switzerland Youth Caucus invites you to join us on an informal tour of “A Black Hole is Everything a Star Longs to Be,” the exciting, multi-media art exhibition by Kara Walker currently on view at Kunstmuseum Basel. Born in Stockton, California in 1969, the American artist has been one of the youngest people ever selected for a McArthur fellowship, listed among Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World'' and featured in museums, exhibits and creative spaces around the globe. Often shocking audiences, Walker’s work centers on themes of gender, sexuality, and race.
Attendees arriving in Basel by train can meet us at the Basel Hauptbahnhof at 2:40 p.m. We expect to arrive at the museum by 3 p.m.
Interested participants should also take note of the fact that, in accordance with Switzerland’s COVID-measures, a valid Swiss or EU Covid certificate (vaccinated, recovered, tested) must be presented together with an official identity card in order to enter the museum. We also recommend booking a ticket in advance via the museum website, but tickets can also be bought at the location.
After viewing Walker’s exhibit, we will walk to Consum for drinks, take some time to discuss our impressions of the exhibit, relax, chat, and get to know one another.
