Message from the Chair

Dear Colleagues:

We are only days away from the general elections happening throughout the United States. I’m extremely proud of all that Democrats Abroad and our Veterans and Military Families (VMF) Caucus have done to help get out the vote. We have phone-banked,  pitched in with donations to help get out the vote, shared and re-shared social media posts,  helped research candidates for VMF endorsements, helped with VoteFromAbroad.org’s voter helpdesk, and/or raised issues important to the military-connected community on why it’s important to elect Democrats. Whatever role you played, thank you. Because of your efforts, we are in a stronger position to take back majorities in state legislatures, city councils, and more.

Please make sure to remind all your friends, family and colleagues to VOTE for Democratic candidates on November 4. For any questions on voting deadlines, state-specific rules for ballot return, or general voting assistance, check out https://www.votefromabroad.org.

As we move forward, it is vital to keep up the pressure on all members of Congress to end the government shutdown, swear in Representative-Elect Adelita Grijalva, halt the deportations of military-connected individuals, and more. Please continue to light up those phone lines, as there should not be one minute of phone silence in each congressional office.

And finally, a hearty congratulations to Democrats Abroad Italy for recently creating a VMF Caucus. DA Italy joins DA Germany, DA France, and DA Spain as country committees with formally established VMF Caucuses, and we can’t wait to see the amazing things they’ll do.

Michael Ramos

Chair, Democrats Abroad Global VMF Caucus

Veteran and Military Family Member

Get Out the Vote! (GOTV)

We posted this message in last month’s newsletter, and we’re posting it here again: If you are willing and able to assist with nonpartisan voter registration efforts on a U.S. military installation in 2026, please make sure to register your interest with your country committee in addition to letting us know ([email protected]). If you need guidance on how to go about volunteering at a military location, feel free to reach out to us! If the Legislative Branch and the Judicial Branch won’t restore sanity within this Administration, it’s up to us as the voters – and the military community needs us to help get out the vote from abroad.

VMF Tip of the Month

Q: An abroad-based surviving spouse of a U.S. military retiree recently raised a question with VMF: How to replace a lost or stolen DoD ID card for dependents?

A: If the dependent is unable to renew the ID card online (https://idco.dmdc.osd.mil/idco/) or unable to visit a local ID card facility, he or she can contact the Project Office for that branch of service. One can do so by contacting the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) at the phone number below and requesting that information.
