EMAIL CAMPAIGN

Action

Send emails to state legislature members encouraging them to ratify the ERA.

Objective

The goal is to show state legislature members that their constituents and other Americans living outside the US care about the Equal Rights Amendment being ratified.

Priorities

The first priority state is Virginia.  The next three are Arizona, Missouri and North Carolina.   The other 9 states are as of now equal priority.

The top priority people, if known, will be in bold on the address list for the Senate and House.  In general it is the leader of each or the leader of the committee holding the ERA resolution, if one, is in play.

GUIDELINES

Email Addresses

The email addresses for all the state legislature members can be found on the state ERA page.

When addressing them, be sure to use Senator, Representative, or Honorable as a prefix to the full name.   Don’t forget to add USA to the address!

Text for Email

Explain why you, as an American living abroad, care about the Equal Rights Amendment.   If you live in a country where women are guaranteed equal rights in the constitution, give examples of how that has helped women in the country.   Give a specific call to action to the recipient; for example, submit an ERA bill, co-sponsor an existing bill, vote for an upcoming bill, or simply to support ERA ratification.

Here's a simple template you can use.

Dear {name},

I'm an American living in {country name} and vote in the state of {voting state}.   I am writing to you for your support of the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.   Eighty five percent (85%) of all countries in the world have equal rights for women in their constitution.   I want to see the same for my home country.

Sincerely,
