Welcome to Democrats Abroad Philippines (DA-PH), the official country committee for Democrats living in the Philippines.  As a political group, we aspire to be relevant to the members of the Democratic Party by supporting initiatives to increase participation in the electoral process and providing a platform to get involved in issues that impact their lives while living abroad and the lives of their families in their home states.

We have seen in the past years how elected leaders overtly undermined the democratic principles from which the nation was founded, by:

  • making voting more complicated thereby restricting voters from full, unfettered participation;
  • restricting voting by traditionally Democratic groups such as people of color, LGBTQ, most immigrants and college students; and
  • corrupting the election process by approving Citizen United law and related legislation to promote raising dark money deployed to disinform and undermine elections and voter participation.

These are serious issues that need to be addressed, and we, the people, have the power to change them by the power of our VOTESGet involved in your state elections by joining your Facebook State Groups, check upcoming state and general elections through, campaign, donate, and ensure that that democratic candidates win local, state, and national elections.

The core work of DA-PH is dedicated towards mobilizing Americans to vote for Democratic candidates in state and national elections. To support this agenda, we:

  • Recruit new members to expand the membership base.
  • Mobilize volunteers through phone banking to ensure they register and vote on time. Sign up for phone banking here. For global volunteering opportunities, please register here.
  • Help voters understand how to register and vote from abroad. Click here for detailed 2021 election deadlines for overseas voters.

DA-PH supports, as well, the following issues and advocacies to effect policy reform affecting American citizens in the Philippines:

The National Welfare Rights Organization 1966 - 1975

An outgrowth of the Civil Rights Movement: Women of Color Rising to lift themselves and their children out of poverty.

Join the Global Black Caucus for an insightful webinar, during Black History Month 2023, and learn more about the significance of the National Welfare Rights Organization and its activism and legacy which still carries on today.

    February 11, 2023, at 10:00 AM EST / 16:00 PM CET / 23:00 HKT

This webinar is facilitated by Miriam Victory Spiegel, Democrats Abroad Switzerland, born in 1945 in New York City, long-time activist, Community Organizer in New York 1968 – 1980, and Couples and Family Therapist, in Zürich, Switzerland since 1990.

During this webinar, Miriam will begin her presentation by focussing on the events that she experienced as an activist and community organizer in New York City in 1968. She will describe the theoretical basis of the creation of the National Welfare Rights Organization and its inception within the framework of the Civil Rights Movement. To contextualize, she will share a rearview mirror with us, looking back and trying to understand why so many people of color were left behind in mid-sixties America and seemed doomed to a life of poverty, limited education, poor health, and unemployment. These reflections will take us on a historical journey beginning in 1619 and ending in 1968….

This event is being co-sponsored by the Global Women's Caucus.

Join us for an insightful webinar on February 11, 2023, at 10:00 AM EST / 16:00 PM CET / 23:00 HKT

Medicare - What You Need to Know

    Medicare and Americans Abroad

Join us on February 19th for a practical explanation of what Medicare is, how it is funded, to whom it is available and the nature of coverage it does or can include.  Find out what kind of decisions you will have to make – either now or in the future – and how these decisions and programs can significantly impact your future financial and insurance coverage situation.  These decisions are important for people with disabilities and seniors, but knowing what is coming is important for all Americans overseas – whether you plan to stay abroad or move back to the US.

Our panelists are Democrats Abroad members and Americans living abroad who are working on legislation to better the opportunities of Americans abroad and who will share their knowledge, experience and plans for the future with you. Please note that this panel will give neither financial advice nor expert opinion on individual situations.  The webinar will be recorded, and all the documents presented in this webinar will be sent to anyone who RSVPS for the event.
